摘要:The present article addresses the issue of formulaic language in the Lithuanian EFL learner speech. The Lithuanian learner language is very little researched, while the research in learner academic speech is virtually non-existent. Therefore this study is a first step towards using a corpus of advanced Lithuanian learners’ spoken English, a pilot corpus of the Lithuanian component of the Louvain International database of Spoken English Interlanguage (LINDSEI-LITH), to give an overall picture of recurrent word phrases in the Lithuanian learner speech. The findings of the study show that although the speech of the Lithuanian learners of English is quite formulaic, the majority of the formulaic sequences established in our data are semantically transparent and their formulaicity is largely determined by pragmatic functions rather than idiomaticity.
