  • 摘要:Motivation for learning is an important factor in the pursuit of best learning results. Motivation as an important part of the organisation of the educational process is sufficiently widely analysed in foreign educational literature. In Lithuania, the study of the impact of motivation for learning on the results of learning of academic subjects started in 2002, when national studies of pupils’ achievements were studied in the framework of a partial component ‘Assessment of pupils’ progress’ of component ‘Creation of an education quality management system’ of the Education Improvement Project of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania (the article analyses studies in the area of Lithuanian language [reading and writing]). The present article is the first article in a planned cycle of articles dedicated to the importance of motivation for teaching Lithuanian. The article will present a summary of the conclusions drawn from the answers of 6th form teachers and pupils to a questionnaire about motivation to learn Lithuanian, discuss the dependence of pupils’ achievements in the field of reading and writing on their motivation for learning, and analyse sets of Lithuanian language teaching material for the 6th form from the point of view of pupil activities intended for reading and writing learning. The objective of the article is to discuss the concept of motivation for learning and, based on the study data, to analyse the importance of motivation for learning Lithuanian in the 6th form. The subject of the study comprises a summary of the answers to questionnaire questions provided by 6th form pupils and teachers and about achievements in the field of reading and writing, as well as teaching material for the 6th form that was published starting from 2005, i.e. when the results of two studies conducted in the 6th form were already known. The method of the study comprises analysis, summarisation, and analytical description of information sources, teaching material, and questionnaire data. The article presents summarised study conclusions that were drawn after discussion of the following issues connected with motivation for learning: 1) issues connected with the content of the relevant academic subject (i.e. Lithuanian language); 2) issues connected with learning styles; 3) issues connected with activities of the teacher and pupils during class; and 4) issues connected with pupils’ attitudes towards learning Lithuanian. The article does not analyse the psychological aspects of motivation for learning and is focused on how teaching materials help or do not help to pursue results and motivate pupils.
