摘要:The book provides an explanation on how the gods of early Hinduism got to be inserted in
temples, the organization of their cults, and how the ruling elite supported the religious
devotions. Michael Willis do this through a meticulous analysis from inscriptions, sculptures
and sacred sites in general; he shows how the Gupta dynasty developed new systems of
religious order and control in medieval India. The book is divided in three main parts: the
first part deals with ¡®The archeology and politics of time at Udayagiri¡¯; the second with
¡®The establishment of the Gods¡¯; the third and final section is devoted to ¡®Ritual action and
ritual actors.¡¯
