摘要:Until recently, youth work has been seen as an ‘indeterminate’ educational practice, often focused on ‘process’ rather than ‘outcome’. Trends in the managerialisation of professional work in the public services have meant that an instrumental accountability has been increasingly sought by policy-makers and funders. This article explores shifting practices of accountability in youth services. It argues that new practices embody forms of power which attempt to align political aspirations with the formation and development of individual professional identities. As such, these new practices should be seen as part of the continuing effort to transform professional work and identities in ways which accord with the principles of neo-liberalism. Such models of account- ability should be challenged, and more reflexive forms of professionalism and accountability secured for the development of youth work as an educational practice.
