The development of the morphological characteristics of Odžaci was partly influenced by the natural factors of the environment, mainly of geological and morphological characteristics, hydrological characteristics and partly by the forest ecosystems in the surrounding area. The prevailing influence was accomplished by the social and historical situation, in the beginning because of the striving of Austria to strengthen its position in this part of the country, and later by the progressive development of the community which was obviously more advanced than in the neighboring villages. This is why Odžaci received a status of a market town in 1813, which opened opportunities for further progress. Not only did the development of the industry in the beginning of the twentieth century enhance urban development, but it also represented a basis for its further development after the World War Two. Throughout history, strong industry in Odžaci changed the urban contour of its settlements which completely changed their scenery.
