摘要:Radiation hazard due to presence of natural radionuclides 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in five Ghanaian cement types from different factories were assessed using gamma-ray spectrometry with HPGe detector. The mean activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in the studied cement samples were 35.94±0.78, 25.44±0.80, and 233.0±3.95 Bq/kg, respectively. The radium equivalent activity (Raeq), the external and internal hazard indices, 222Rn mass exhalation rate, the emanation coefficient, the indoor absorbed dose rate and the corresponding annual effective dose were estimated for potential exposure risks of the cement samples. The results obtained were compared with data from other countries. The mean indoor absorbed dose rate was 50.5% less than the population-weighted average of 84 nGy/h whiles the corresponding effective dose was 79% less than the dose criterion of 1 mSv/y. The results obtained in this study show no significant radiological hazards arising from using Ghanaian cement for construction of houses.
