摘要:It took a volcano from a country in the middle of the North Atlantic ocean to remind us how interconnected our world is. As Eyjafjallajokul spewed ash in Iceland, airlines around the world saw their flights cancelled. Millions of passengers were left stranded in foreign countries or unable to reach their destination. Some could not come home or return to work, others missed out on their dream vacation or an important business event. Children missed school, relatives were absent from weddings. Hundreds of thousands of people desperately sought alternative means of transport. Airlines lost millions, and their losses affected other industries. Production in some companies was brought to a halt and many labourers around the world found themselves jobless.
