摘要：Acceleration and sustainability of Kosovo’s economic development depends to a considerable extent on the implementation of adequate economic and structural policies and reforms, which should enable rational use of natural and human resources in Kosovo. Complete restructuring of the lignite-powered electricity generation sector is necessary. It should be implemented while taking into consideration the problems and development opportunities identified to date, as well as the obligations Kosovo has taken as part of the Energy Community Treaty. Its main objective should be supporting Kosovo’s economic and social development. Security of supply, attraction of investments, environmental protection and further development of the energy market should remain Kosovo’s main strategic objectives, as they also comprise strategic objectives of the EU Energy Sector. The purpose of this research is to identify the challenges in the energy sector and propose the restructuring of Kosovo Energy Corporation J.S.C (KEK). This paper strives to contribute to a better design of energy policies, in order to ensure their utmost accordance with the European approaches, as well as to contribute to the improvement of the situation regarding electricity supply at the most favorable possible economic cost. After the analysis of the current situation in the energy sector, this paper identifies the main challenges and provides respective conclusions and recommendations.
