摘要:The Colombian health service presents evidence of the market power exercised by the insurer organizations (EPS) with respect to their neighbours in the supply chain - the hospitals. The paper puts this hypothesis on a floor of the empirical evidence and shows that the EPS are more concentrated than the hospitals. The hospitals try to defend themselves, building some "isles" of concentration in some selected services. But even the most concentrated services never reach the level of concentration which have the insurers. The imbalance in the degree of the concentration explains the market power of the EPS with respect to the hospitals. The market power is one of the causes that explain the difficult financial situation of the hospitals. Concrete mensures are proponed.
