摘要：Currently, waters, like the entire surrounding enviroment, are subjects to aggressive impacts generated by the development of society based on polluting technologies. The need to protect the natural functions of water is an essential element of importance in analyzing how a society uses its water resources. Increased content of phosphorus compounds in surface water wich leads to eutrophication, which is manifested by excessive growth of algae, followed by the oxygen consumption necessary for the oxidation of organic material, with serious effects on the natural balance of ecosystems. In the present work are highlighted aspects of pollution of the river Jiu in Gorj county by phosphorus compounds and the negative effects on water quality due to these compounds.
