摘要:At the beginning of the 20th century Bjelovar-Kriæevci county had all the features of an agrarian region, in its economic structure agriculture having the most important role. But service activities and handicrafts also contributed a great deal to the region’s prosperity. Clothes manufacturing, heavy industry, timber and wood industry as well as hostel and inn-keeping were outstanding production activities. What prevailed were small craftsman workshops that were mainly based on the owner himself while other people’s labour was engaged only sporadically. Such an unfavourable economic structure and a rather low level of industrial development resulted in vastscale emigration, mostly to North America.
