摘要：Theoretical narrative of design processes is regarded in the paper as an inclusive part of the professional constitution, therefore as a solid foundation of constitution of history of design in specific context, on the level of theory as well as history. Within the Croatian context during the period of socialist Yugoslavia from 1950 to 1990 a lot was published in the field of design. The paper analyses design as a part of overall social processes of modernization, establishing theoretical foundation within the theoretical thought created both in Great Britain and the USA due to the basic hypothesis that modernization, i.e. socio-economic development was part of essential social strategies, both in capitalist and socialist countries. The paper also presents a short retrospective of representative examples of theoretical thought within the Croatian context, with the specific results: cataloguing ideas as referential material for further research. The paper concludes with the distinction between the terms shaping (oblikovanje) and design (dizajn) as solid grounds for further theoretical analysis.
