摘要:The purpose of this research is to find out how character traits, cognitive appraisals, and strategies of coping with school-related stressful situations affect mood. The research was conducted on a sample of 545 elementary and high- -school students. In the first part of the research, students were asked to fill out a personality survey and in the second part they were asked to remember the most stressful situation they experienced during the past month. Then they evaluated how stressful and threatening the situation was, whether they were able to control it, how they dealt with it and how they felt after it was over. Empirically, the research widens current knowledge by referring to the simultaneous influence of Eysenck personality traits. It also refers to a variable contribution of cognitive appraisals and the importance for a coping strategy in situations connected to school. Theoretically, this research supports the Lazarus transactional model of stress and coping, while the practical contribution of this research applies to the possibility of conducting change, i.e. training effective mechanisms of coping to facilitate better functioning – adaptation of students to their environment.
