摘要：The article defines Croatian islands as a particular spacial and economic integrality in Croatia and explains the particularities of past trends in island economy and population. The particularities of development also indicate a specific type of research of the islands and a particular development policy. The concepts of an island system and sustainable development of the islands have been determined. The islands' development policy is defined within the general development policy of Croatia. Aims and instruments for its realization have also been proposed.
