摘要:A large number of studies have shown that an increased intake of salt is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease, as well as hypertension. The purpose of this study was to investigate if a link can be established between increased salt intake and hypertension in the general population. In study participated 93 randomly selected participants from two family practices. The data on dietary habits was obtained via a survey, as well as anthropometric measurements, arterial pressure was used as a risk predictor for hypertension, and the amount of ingested salt was determined by 24-hour urine samples. The results showed there was no link between salt intake and hypertension, but a link between salt intake and obesity and metabolic syndrome was found. These results show that one of the goals of nutrition education programs should be to emphasize the reduction of table salt intake, thus reducing obesity. The results also indicate the need for greater involvement of nutritionist/dietetion in primary health care.
