摘要：The main purpose of this study was to determine the differences in functional skills between an urban and a rural sample of students of the same chronological age and level of nutrition. The examinee sample consisted of a total of 1117 elementary school students from 5 to 8 grade. The students regularly attended the physical and health education classes two lessons per week. The Body Mass Index was calculated by which to determine the nutritional status of each student. The functional abilities were evaluated using the test of 6 minutes of continuous running (F6) which is used in Croatian elementary and secondary schools. The results indicate that there is a statistically significant difference (p among the formed examinee groups according to chronological age, level of nutrition and to urban or rural living environment. Students from rural areas (1359m ± 149), regardless of chronological age and level of nutrition have generally significantly (p levels of functional abilities than the students from urban settlements (1250m ± 186). In an ideal case interventions aiming to promote children's health should include measures which would simultaneously improve the level of functional abilities and decrease the obesity level and that should start already in the lower grades of primary schools and particularly in urban areas.
