摘要:Maintaining the fitness of a language, among other things, requires supporting its ``export''. Thus, one of the things that is significant for the survival of a language is how many speakers use it as a second language. In this day and age we are open to using foreign languages. The need for foreign languages is obvious, and their usage in various situations may make our life easier and contribute to the quality of international communication. This fact has been recognized and confirmed in a number of European documents, the most important of which for our purposes is the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching, assessment. Upon its ascension to the European Union, Poland has enacted a Law on the Polish Language. The need for this law might be a debatable issue, but what is certain is that the law has two important stipulations. The first concerns the establishment of the Polish Language Commission under the auspices of the Polish Academy of Science, and the second is Polish language certification. The talk will present the chronology of the Polish language certification, the legal provisions making it possible and the way certification functions in practice.
