摘要：Subject of analysis in this paper is sustainable development of island tourism. Croatian islands need to protect environment through implantation of environment friendly development strategy of tourism and other economic activities. Protection and promotion of island communities need to be the main aim of islands development. In this respect the author presents reasons and argumentation for appropriate tourism activities, including eco tourism, rural tourism, cultural and health tourism. Theoretical research has been enriched by empirical research revealing preferences and motivation of tourist visit the island of Vis.
