摘要:The paper presents the results of the research regarding the use of mathematics textbooks in upper grades of primary school in the Republic of Croatia. The research was conducted in 2008 on a sample of 987 mathematics teachers coming from different regions of the country. The research established the extent to which the selected mathematics textbook is used in teaching, the manner in which it is used, and the teaching methods applied when using the textbook. The research also evaluated teacher satisfaction with the quality of mathematics textbooks in Croatia. The results obtained show that a mathematics textbook is frequently used in teaching and that it greatly influences teaching. It proved to be the main resource which teachers use for preparing a lesson. Its organization, suggested teaching procedures, and content influence the content and organization of teaching, as well as the teaching methods used in a lesson. When presenting new content, the majority of the participants resort to frontal teaching, followed by practice from the textbook set. Homework is most frequently assigned from the textbook set, which means that students use the textbook mostly for practice, while the teacher uses it as a theoretical base and for teaching preparation. Overall, teachers are satisfied with the current offer of math textbooks in Croatia.
