摘要：The main objective of the Government of the Republic of Croatia is to accede to the European Union as soon as possible. However, the need to create a uniform Croatian terminology for EU legal concepts has been sorely neglected, although the use of uniform terminology is a conditio sine qua non for the legal reliability of the Croatian translations of the Community acquis. In light of the great importance of this problem for the accession process and for the future of the Croatian legal language in general, the present article opens the discussion on concrete measures which need to be implemented immediately in order to create order in the immense disorder in terminology work in Croatia. Drawing on the experiences of the former candidate countries Latvia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, the authors propose measures of systematic terminology management, such as the centralization of terminology work, the formation of a new interdisciplinary terminology committee and the creation of a central terminological database, with the ultimate goal of standardizing Croatian terms for EU legal concepts. Urgent and efficient action is necessary to ensure the success of the linguistic and legal revision of all Croatian translations of the acquis.
