摘要:This paper compares the aims of primary education in the Republic of Croatia and in Finland. The aims of different classes have been summarized and presented in tables, and the general aims have been analized. The qualitative analysis aims to provide insight into the genereal sense of the target message, i.e. information on what is expected from education in Finland and in Croatia. The categories used as the basis for analysis are the favoured aims of elementary education extracted from introductions to national curricula and syllabuses. The results indicate that Croatian primary schools aim to teach and to have students acquire knowledge and skills important for further education, as well as to help them achieve holistic development. Finland focuses rather on the diversification of education and the European dimension of schooling, and the development of core competences (work, family and civil) aiming for a personal growth and development, participation in society, employment, and life-long learning. If we accept that the aim of education is the development of core competences in students, we will realize that the content is not that important. The modern curriculum promotes the learning based on success and the supreme pleasure of learning using different learning styles and opinions, focusing more on the aims and development, and less on the content.
