摘要:Given the several and severe educational, social and emotional/psychological problems facing the learners especially in the face of poverty and the merciless onslaught by HIV/AIDS epidemic, a huge challenge to educational research is to find how best to contain the effects of these problems on learning. The problem is that teachers who are expected to serve as research warriors generally lack the capacity to carry out educational research. This study was designed to determine the effectiveness of UB graduate education research programme in research capacity building by ensuring significant desirable cognitive and affective changes in behaviour among graduate education students. The data generated from administering a validated questionnaire to 83 in-service graduate education students before and at the end of an educational research course in 2007/2008 school year were analysed with dependent t-test statistical technique and compared across time. The results showed significant desirable changes in cognitive and affective behaviour among these in-service students pointing to some level of effectiveness of the course in cognitive and affective capacity building among in-service teachers serving as UB graduate education students as regards research skill development. The results were discussed and recommendations made.
