Malfunctioning biological families are a controversial topic. On the one hand, anonymous putting babies away into baby-boxes and childbirth with a covert maternal identity have been legalized in the Czech Republic; on the other hand, biological parents are searched for to meet their children living in foster families. There is a strong myth about biological family and blood bonds as irreplaceable, but there are also strong prejudices against people who failed in parenting. Opinions swing like a pendulum, guesses and variously justified assertions are standing against each other. The media has big influence on public opinion, but does not always present the problem of substitute family care and institutional foster care earnestly and duly. The aim of this contribution is to present acquired data concerning biological families that are obviously more objective indicators than opinions and speculations.
