摘要:Affective factors are generally assumed to influence second language acquisition. Yet there are a lot of difficulties associated with research of such variables, particulariy in terms of identification and measurement. The overall picture that we obtain from the studies into affective variables in second language acquisition reveáis that the bulk of the research has been concemed with the predispositions, attitudes or motivations that the learner brings into the learning situation, ie with initial affect, while the learner's emotive/affective reactions to the process of language learning have comparatively received less attention. This article, however, will concéntrate on the imphcations and insights that research findings and educational pedagogy can provide -albeit indirectly- as to the way in which affective conditions can be optimally manipulated by the teacher in the context of classroom instruction.
