摘要：Brazil's rural population has been undergoing massive changes as far as human resources are concerned. Rural youth has been striving to realize their dreams by means of leaving the countryside for thriving cities. Many a prospective family farmer, who once could relate to farm activities, saw an array of career opportunities unfolding elsewhere as possible alternatives to farming. This goes not without affecting all layers of rural society. The current study begot a doctoral dissertation presented to the panel of postgraduate program for UFPel family farm systems. The aforementioned dissertation comprised a field study via semi-structured interviews, as an attempt to represent the group of family farms in Morro Redondo County, RS. The interviews allowed the understanding of certain variables which vouched for such transition in the rural environment. They are as follows: the uncertainty of a regular income as a rural worker and easier access to post secondary education has threatened the succession and therefore continuation of family farm businesses
