摘要：The present work aims to verify how the neighboring population to the artificial lake of Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant perceive the characteristics of the climate of the western region of Paraná, and if the presence of this water body, introduced in the landscape after several social conflicts between the population and entrepreneurs (in this case, the military government), interferes with the perception of climate in the region. To this end, questionnaires were developed and applied in open interviews, with 116 respondents who have been living in the region for around 30 years, both in rural and urban areas, seeking understanding of climate perception of the succession of types of weather as well as in relation to the presence of the lake and its influence on local climate for people who experience this fact. In the data analysis, it's possible to say that the people interviewed had a good understanding of the climate of the region and the issues which affect and change it (by comparing the results of the interviews with other studies and literature on the subject) and that Itaipu lake is perceived as an important factor in climate change over time, alongside others, such as deforestation.
