摘要：In most Brazilian cities, the problem of solid waste management is the lack of integrated management, resulting in an inadequate final destination, which generates negative impacts on the environment and society at large. The article describes research on the reality of solid waste in the municipality of Aquidauana-MS, involving the following aspects: the functioning of an integrated management, the importance of selective waste collection, reuse of recyclables, the way of disposal, the possibilities of reuse of recyclable solid waste in the city and the necessary interaction between the elements involved in integrated management. The field research was conducted by interviews with those responsible for waste management in the municipality and with segments of society involved in the system. The results show very poor functioning of the system in all its stages and the lack of an integrated management, especially regarding the disconnection between their elements. Thus, the conclusion punctuates these deficiencies and makes recommendations for improving the management of solid waste in the municipality.
