摘要：An economic appraisal of the water resources of La Golondrina Watershed was carried out, and a proposal was formulated for the payment of environmental water supply services in order to ensure the conservation of said resources. The study area was within Cerro Musún, a co-managed protected reserve and the main source of potable water for the city of Río Blanco. The methodology implied: preparation of a water scale to determine supply; identification of critical zones in order to estimate environmental costs; contingent assessments to estimate the population’s payment capacities; and review of the legal and institutional framework that regulates water resources and municipal faculties for environmental management. Study results show that the watershed’s problems are related to water quality rather than quantity. Environmental costs (US$ 26,980 / year) would make it possible to implement a management plan involving the relocation of watering spots, reforestation, latrine building, and measures for the productive re-conversion of surrounding degraded areas under agroforestry and silvopastoral systems. Incomes expected from the population’s payment capacities (US$ 28,100 / year) would fully cover the costs of conservation.
