摘要：This article discusses the most relevant tendencies in current biotechnology research in Nicaragua. The recent surge in this area of knowledge is highlighted, based principally on information gathered from the three Nicaraguan Biotechnology Conferences (2002, 2004, and 2006). It includes a description of activities and topics covered in the third conference, with special attention paid to the most outstanding presentations. The sector’s potential in terms of the national economy is also discussed. This review provides a diagnosis of the current situation and could be of considerable benefit for making decisions regarding the development of policies to promote scientific investigation.
