摘要：The Human Genome Sequence, published in February of 2001, has been considered to be the most important scientific accomplishment of the twentieth century. The sequencing, four years later, of three trypanosome parasites, among them Trypanosoma cruzi, could be classified as one of the most important scientific events in the Americas as well, in the realm of public health. Presented here is a general panorama of the most significant results in the study of T. cruzi genomics. Research carried out in our laboratory in the Universidad Centroamericana is covered, followed by a discussion on perspectives for the use of genomics in Nicaragua.
