摘要：The prioritization of protected areas for research and monitoring of biodiversity is a need in most countries regardless of their level of development, since availability of funding for these purposes is always limited. In the present paper the set of Nicaraguan protected areas chosen for conducting research and monitoring of biodiversity in the country are presented; the multi-criteria tool designed for this objective is also explained in detail. By applying the cited tool a list of 16 prioritized protected areas was obtained. This was completed by the inclusion of another two for a total of 18 prioritized areas, after a workshop directed towards consulting the national scientific community.
