摘要：Colours constitute a key element of both expressionism and expressionist poetry. Pure colours in expressionism are not used to portray actual characteristics; they are used instead to render the abstract and the visionary, to show how something expresses itself and the way it is seen from the inside. Antun Branko Šimić, Croatia’s most notable expressionist poet, frequently makes use of colours in accordance with expressionist poetics. Vladimir Čerina is less renowned as an expressionist poet; however, it is precisely due to the specific use he makes of colour that he may be considered a Croatian expressionist. This paper investigates the frequency of colour use in the work of both poets. Research was carried out, which included practically all the available poems written by Šimić and Čerina, and use of concordances led to specific conclusions regarding the function of using colours in the work of both poets.
