摘要:Children’s and youth literature includes the age group ranging from infants to adulthood; illustrated books and stories for preschoolers and first readers for school age children and age appropriate novels, stories and poems in later years. Unfortunately in our country, this type of literature only recently became popular and received acceptance. Therefore, its place in elementary level language teaching courses is far from acceptable as children’s literature is given limited place in single text-book courses. Since 1970’s, a significant change and progress can be seen Germany where children’s literature is accepted as a separate field of study and found its way into the curricula. Through the children’s literature available at schools, students develop a healthy reading habit and enhance their imagination, vocabulary and knowledge, and thus become future universal readers. These developments in Germany may set an example for our country.
