标题:Whole Body Subcutaneous Fat Layer of Hemiplegic Patients with Cerebral Vascular Accident. - Comparison between Caliper and Ultrasonic B-mode Methods -
摘要:We measured subcutaneous fat layer of 22 male hemiplegic patients after cerebral vascular accident by calipers and ultrasonic B-mode methods, and compared the results obtained. We further examined a distribution pattern of subcutaneous fat layer in order to obtain fundamental data on physical composition of hemiplegic patients.Irrespective of measured side and region, the mean subcutaneous fat layer of whole body measured by the skinfold calipers method was higher than that by the ultrasonic B-mode method. There was no significant correlation between the results by the both methods, except that of deltoid muscle of unaffected side (r=0.6, p<0.01). Results of the present study revealed an obvious difference between the methods, suggesting that subcutaneous fat layer of whole body could not be measured accurately by calipers method. In hemiplegic patients, subcutaneous fat layer of centralregions was found to be thicker than that of peripheral regions of the body. Thisconcurred with the previous findings on healthy subjects. Subcutaneous fat layer wasthicker in the affected side than in unaffected side.
