摘要：From the very beginning, the term has been one of the basic units in Functional Grammar (Dik 1978, 1989, 1997a, 1997b). Although in the course of the years various changes and additions have been proposed, to the theory as a whole as well as to the structure of terms, the basic architecture of terms seems to have remained relatively unaffected. Nevertheless, on close examination it turns out that the picture is, in fact, far from clear, that the various changes and additions proposed are often incompatible, and that a number of important issues have as yet not been resolved.
