摘要:Academic competitions in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields have been used in the United States and across the world as a tool to identify the most creative and talented students. This process takes place outside the curriculum that is mandated by the schools. Many teachers recognize the extraordinary talents of their gifted students and use competitions to foster their development. This theme issue presents information about a set of prestigious high school competitions – the international academic Olympiads. The articles included provide a cross-cultural lens in examining the long-term outcomes of being identified as a national academic Olympian.
