The aim of this study is to realize the potential benefits it brings to have a good family support in times of great uncertainty. It is widely observed that anxiety is to undergo surgery. Part of that anxiety is determined by the uncertainty caused by not knowing the outcome of the intervention. Our study sample consisted of 42 patients scheduled to undergo surgery at a referral center for the health area of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura. To evaluate family behavior, the questionnaire was administered FACES-II. The patient outcome was determined by a protocol designed for this study. The results show a relationship between family behavior and recovery. We found that patients with greater family cohesion had better postoperative recovery. These data indicate that having good social support in times of great uncertainty has beneficial effects on physical and mental health.
