The informational discourse of television newscasts must meet two basic requirements: to inform television viewers about events of interest to the majority and to capture their attention in such a way as to ensure that they continue viewing a certain channel. Regarding the latter point, television channels develop a series of strategies to interest viewers, the main one being the narrativization of the content presented, converting the raw informational material into a highly dramatic story. The research conducted examines the staging of the three principal television newscasts in Chile and as part of the analysis, considers background information regarding news production.
