摘要:This article analyses the Football World Cup disputed in June of 1938 in France, perceived as an emblematic moment for the understanding of the negotiations, conflicts and social tension, which permeated the construction of the "nation", after the involvement of relevant persons from the New State, sports press and supporters, with the Brazilian team campaign. It is about a sports episode of great repercussion on the national life and whose mobilization, around the Brazilian football team, reveals distinct conceptions, despite the "Brazil" that was represented in the French fields. More than a forwarder of unity, capable of congregating among the same supporters antagonistic social groups, and join in fellowship - under the same passion - individuals from the most varied social cultural profiles, in this episode, football arises as a quarreling space, with disagreements and rivalries, which are found in the construction base of the national feeling and the affirmation of a "Brazilian style" of playing football.
