摘要：This paper seeks to discuss some issues related to academic research in sports history, more precisely, to the links between history, surfing and the media. The first part explores shortly some fragments on history of surfing until the 1970s, based on some books dedicated to that sport. The second makes some considerations on surfing in the 1980s, pointing out the relationship between that sport’s development and the media. It is not this article’s intention to exhaust those themes and the issues related to them, but to foster debate over the possibilities of studying surfing in Brazil from an historical point of view
