  • 摘要:Based on the theoretical-methodological approach of cultural history and in gender studies, this paper discusses the importance given to sports in the domestic policy of strengthening the Brazilian white population in the beginning of the 20th century. In order to analyze the role occupied by sport in this process, I have analyzed many sources of research, moreover, the 88 issues of the first physical education and sports journal. Making use of the technique of content analysis, it was possible to understand that the Brazilian nationalist discourse, by searching the refinement of the race, defended white beauty, and, therefore, identified women’s body as the most important instrument for the obtainment of this, identifying in sports the main means of educating women’s body, strengthening it, and perfecting it.
