摘要：This text discusses the historical process of occupation of the floodplain Tietê river in São Paulo, which resulted in a profound degradation of the river, as well as interventions that aimed to adapt it to urban settlement processed around it. The finding of the ineffectiveness of the interventions and the perceived degradation explain the current preoccupation with the preservation of floodplain and limitations for this action takes effect
