Severe Weather Caused by Heavy Rains: Banat Floods, April, 2005. Huge amounts of precipitation fallen in very often period added to the water layer coming out of snow in mountain areas lead to few successive highfloods in Banat region, in May 2005. Increasing air temperature was another important factor in setting off of the first flood wave, by registering maximum and minimum positive temperatures for all levels of altitude. These conditions generated liquid precipitation even in the mountain area and also the melting of snow layer. The floods were composed in the inferior course of Timis River and lead to the spillage of the waters breaking off the dyke in two locations. Thus, important volume of water entered the valleys and the surroundin areas and about 35.000 ha of agricultural land were flooded together with few villages.
