摘要：O autor examina o conto “Terpsícore”, de Machado de Assis, a partir da regência do olhar e de sua linguagem plástica. O emprego de expressões ou metáforas concretizantes não é exclusividade de "Terpsícore". Elas são empregadas também em outras obras do escritor. No entanto, a profusão de tais expressões e metáforas nesse conto lhe confere um traço característico de linguagem: sua visualidade. Estabelece-se, assim, uma homologia entre forma e conteúdo, isto é, entre aquela característica de linguagem e as manifestações do olhar, como a dança e as aspirações do desejo sensual. São considerados ainda os aspectos sociais.
其他摘要：The author examines the short story “Terpsícore”, by Machado de Assis, from the command of look and its plastic language. The utilization of realizing expressions or metaphors is not exclusiviness of “Terpsícore”. They are also used in others Machado de Assis’ works. However, the profusion of those expressions and metaphors in that short story confers characteristic trace of language on it: its visual aspect. Then, a homology is established between form and content, i.e., between that characteristic of language and the expressions of look, as the dance and the aspirations of the sensual desire. The social aspects are also considered in this work.
