摘要:Examining the arguments for and against intellectual property rights, the author of this paper argues that the current copyright structure of the music industry is designed to protect the profits of recording labels (and other holders of copyright), but it may not maximize the cultural wealth of society with regard to music. In this paper, another creative industry, the fashion industry, which survives in the absence of copyright law, is examined. Using an analysis of the survival and success of the fashion industry, along with existing literature arguing against intellectual property rights, the authors explore how the music industry would survive, and flourish, without copyright.
