摘要:Jerome Charyn’s books have always been happily welcomed in France, ever since the French met Isaac Sidel in the mid-1970s. The legend has it that Blue Eyes, Great Isaac and Marilyn the Wild1 jauntily entered the Série Noire as Marcel Duhamel’s last enthusiastic discovery.2 But in the following years, Jerome Charyn did not content himself with developing Isaac’s dark saga in a New York gone crazy. While the bandes dessinées he co-wrote with some of the best European graphic artists3 enchanted new readers, he also made his name as a reliable and inspired expert on the history of New York City4 and on American culture,5 especially that of the 1930s, 40s and 50s, in which he grew up.
