摘要：This article discusses relevant assertions about the scientific and academic nature of Tourism. The theoretical framework analyses the present scientific status and the maturity of the Tourism Studies as an academic subject. The empirical investigation systematizes the collection of the secondary data from the reality of Portuguese higher education, with the purpose to demonstrate the importance of this study area after the implementation of the curricular and educational changes of the Bologna Process. In the sequence of this analysis, we can conclude that Tourism has been gradually recognized both as a Science and an important academic subject in Portugal
