摘要:The coexistence of cooperation and competition in strategic alliances makes the value creation and value appropriation mechanisms complex. This paper suggests a model which integrates both mechanisms and identifies moderators to influence the value creation and value appropriation in strategic alliances. Drawing on the economic perspective and the sociological perspective, this paper examines how the resources and the structural position of a firm in the alliance network can contribute to value creation and value appropriation. First, resource complementarity and network centrality are examined as sources of Schumpeterian rent and composite quasi rent. Second, this paper investigates how the resource characteristics of a firm and the structural equivalence in alliance network enhance a firm’s power to capture more value from the collaborative work. Last, the paper posits that the mutual trust and the density of the alliance network can have distinct effects on the value creation and value appropriation mechanisms.
