摘要：The representatives of international statistics are presently concerned with the strengthening and rendering effi cient the statistical system by co-ordinately monitoring the global development1. Dennis Trewin, President of the Statistical Offi ce of Australia, describes the Global Statistical System as representing “certain international organizations – producers of statistics at both global and regional level” (Challenges for the global statistics, 2008), that also include “the various mechanisms for the connection of these organizations”. In actual fact, it embodies a system of standards and classifi cations, a set of principles, criteria and rules that govern the international statistical activities, those organized with a certain periodicity under the patronage of the international statistical organizations included. The Global System works due to the relations interactions and connexions between its decision makers based on a mutual terminology and on the methods and methodologies developed precisely to grant the exchange of statistical information. The main actors are the national, international and supranational organizations with statistical responsibilities, while the centre of the global system is the United Nations Statistical Commission. Essentially, it is the Commission that represents the engine that makes the global statistical system work and that makes concerted efforts in order to develop and implement the international statistical standards and solve urgent matters that exist in all the national offi ces of statistics.
