摘要:This paper aims to show that the mobility of the population, caused by global capitalist flows, changes the structure of the population in cities, creating a multicultural urban citizenship, which makes demands to nation-states for the definition of new concepts of citizenship that are not reduced to belonging to a nation and national identity. The paper presents an overview of some of the more significant theoretical concepts which deal with this problem. One of them is the global city as a form emerging from the activity of global economic and political flows, yet at the same time as a multicultural environment and the centre of creation of new identities. Furthermore, new concepts of citizenship based on identities that are not national are considered, with the description of some of the influential cosmopolitan concepts which search for universal citizenship principles.
